At the start of 2023 Seftons supported the Grains Research and Development Corporate (GRDC) with a significant corporate initiative designed to optimise GRDC’s extension, engagement and communications through benchmarking, best practice and establishing strategic frameworks.

The project included four key outputs delivered by Seftons:

  1. Development of a new GRDC Stakeholder Engagement Framework as a guide for all its communications and stakeholder engagement programs. It outlines how GRDC will interact and engage with its key stakeholders in order to deliver on its core objective of investing in research, development and extension that creates enduring profitability for Australian grain growers.
  2. Development of detailed 13 stakeholder personas to ensure all GRDC’s communications and engagement activities meet its audiences’ needs. These personas represented different types of growers, advisers, research partners, value chain participants, and government and representative organisations and included details about how they think, feel, make decisions, respond to research and want to be communicated with.
  3. Benchmarking the effectiveness of GRDC’s current engagement practices against best practice guides for stakeholder consultation and identify and prioritise gaps and opportunities for improvement. This included an assessment of GRDC’s achievements and exploring examples of effective engagement from other Australian Rural Research and Development Corporations (RDCs).
  4. Development of a stakeholder engagement implementation plan based on the IAP2 Spectrum of public participation that sets out recommendations for how GRDC can inform, consult, involve, collaborate with and empower its key stakeholders.
