Young Carbon Farmers

Seftons and the Future Farmers Network developed ‘Young Carbon Farmers’, a joint project working with next generation farmers to increase understanding of greenhouse emissions in agriculture and the benefits of carbon farming. The project was chosen from more than 200 applications under the Carbon Farming Futures Extension and Outreach Program and received $900,000 in funding.

Working with a specialist steering committee, Seftons is running field tours, webinars, mentoring and virtual site tours, and producing case studies, media materials and website materials. The project encourages young farmers to adjust farming practices to reduce greenhouse emissions, and participate in the Carbon Farming Initiative, where they can earn income from sequestration of carbon.
